Let’s talk about the power of transformation.
Transformation is not really a comfortable word. I don’t think any of us associate the word “fun” with transformation. And transformation is not an easy process. It usually involves some struggle, maybe even a little anguish, as we metamorphose out of the old way and break free into the new way.
So why the heck would we do it? Why bother to change? Here are three reasons to embrace change in your life:
· Change is the only constant we can count on. So why fight it?
· That which changes, evolves; that which refuses to change, dies. Resisting change is simply a slow death.
· Change brings new vigor and excitement to life.
Change that results in transformation is a great gift. But it can still be hard to leave the old behind. We tend to cling to “what is” and hold on to the status quo. Behind the resistance to change is fear of the unknown. Behind fear of the unknown is lack of confidence. We are not certain how we will handle that which we don’t know. Yet, it is in that nebulous realm that magic lies.
When confronted with change, remember…
~You must break the perfect egg to make an omelette.
~You must struggle out of the perfect cocoon to become a butterfly (or dragonfly!)
~You must let go of comfortable old beliefs to make way for bold and beautiful new ones.
The simple truth is that we all must do the work and put in the time, to break out of outdated modes and evolve into a new way of living. It takes intention and effort to grow one thing into another, whether it be yourself, a relationship, a project, or a community.
What can you find in your life that is evidence of this? Turning a lawn into a garden? Creating a meal from new ingredients? Learning new software to complete a project? Raising a child? Developing career skills? Starting a community movement? Maintaining a healthy body? Challenging your mind with new ideas? So many ways to grow and stretch ourselves!
So, today’s question is(are):
1. Do you put time, energy, and focus into growing your human person?
2. Do you consciously try to grow your relationship(s)?
3. Do you intentionally expend energy to make the world a better place?
This seemed like a good topic today because I have been going through some challenging transformations, both personally and professionally. And it has not been easy!
However, as I lean into a new way of looking at things, it begins to feel better. I am intentionally setting aside my outdated beliefs and concepts (of how life “should” be) and intentionally taking a 360 degree tour of this new thing. As I look at it from every angle, I see new beauty, new opportunities, new growth. Yes, it is challenging, but it is also exciting!
So remember: When some new thing suddenly pops up in your life and threatens to blot out your sun, don’t be stuck glaring up at its big shadow. Grow some wings and fly all around it to see it from every side. Maybe it is a beautiful new creation that is going to bring great new things into your life. Be open to that possibility.
Welcome transformation into your life. Embrace change. Grow, grow, grow!
It’s better than the alternative!
Love, Cate
